ABOUT THE CASTLE

In the Goričko region, traces of human settlement can be found that date back to prehistoric times, antiquity, and the early Middle Ages. In the 9th century, this region was dominated by Slavic ancestors under the rule of Princes Pribina and Kocelj. Around the year 900, development was hindered by the incursions of the Magyars, who established the so-called border zone. A renewed colonization took place from the late 11th to the 14th century. During this period, the oldest cultural monuments were built. The rich historical development, spanning from the building of the oldest cultural monuments to the present day, is reflected in churches, memorials, mills, and houses, which remain hidden in the mosaic landscape of Goričko, awaiting visitors. Within them lie stories of the lives of the people, bearing witness to the close connection between nature and people.

Most of these stories are hidden behind the mighty walls of Grad Castle in Goričko.
